Functional Medicine By Dr Kathy Veon
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is a biology based approach to finding the root causes of illness and using various treatment methods to bring balance, restoration and healing to the patient.
For example, the root cause of a person’s depression may be inflammation, and also an underlying genetic predisposition to malabsorption of certain nutrients that create the proper balance of neurotransmitters.
By utilizing traditional lab results, which are analyzed from a more ‘functional medicine‘ perspective, underlying nutrient deficiencies can be identified and corrected with proper supplementation, food therapy and lifestyle modifications. “
Additional therapies utilized for this type of treatment may include:
- Acupuncture
- Pelotherapy
- EVOX Therapy
- Clinical Nutrition
- NAET / Allergy Elimination
- Food Therapy
- Stress and Lifestyle Modification
- Exercise
- Nutrigenomics
- Pharmacogenomics

An initial visit may last 1 to 2 hours, depending on the severity, complexity and duration of the patient’s illness or symptoms. Additional specialty lab tests such as Genetic or Nutrigenomic testing, chemical, heavy metal or mold testing, iodine saturation testing, organic acid tests and many others can be ordered to find underlying issues which contribute to the root cause of disease. Monthly thirty minute re-checks are scheduled to track patient progress and modify treatment protocols when necessary. Many complex disease patterns respond exceedingly well when diagnosed and treated with functional care perspectives.
