Integrative Medicine Treats the Whole Person

Integrative Medicine Treats the Whole Person

Integrative Medicine is healing-oriented in that it focuses on treating every aspect of what it means to be human: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, whereas traditional allopathic medicine focuses on only the part of the physical body or mental state that is showing a symptom of the disease.

Although allopathic medicine may offer a ‘cure’ for symptoms or disease, the patient may not actually be truly ‘healed’.

Integrative Medicine Treats the Whole Person by Dr Kathy Veon.

Pharmaceutical drugs can be given for high blood pressure, depression, digestive disorders, and insomnia to ‘cure’ them, but once the drugs are taken away, the diseases return. So, is this patient really healed?

I would say the answer is ‘no’. ‘Healing’ does not equal ‘curing’.  Healing is a much broader and deeper process in which the body, mind, and spirit are balanced.  When the body, mind, and spirit are balanced, the disease cannot exist.

An Integrative Medicine practitioner may utilize traditional lab work, blood tests, and imaging to determine areas of concern, but will choose to employ less invasive therapies such as nutrition, herbal therapy, acupuncture, poultices and packs, physical exercise, diet and lifestyle changes, emotional healing, biofeedback therapies, and stress-relieving practices to create an environment in which the person can fully heal.

Treating the ‘whole person’ provides a foundation to build and maintain real health. And ‘real health’ is freedom.  Real health does not need to be supported or maintained with drugs, chemicals, or surgeries.  Integrative Medicine can offer the freedom and real health to live, learn, grow, experience, and enjoy life and all that it has to offer. Isn’t that why we’re here?
